Privacy Policy

Snag List ("the app", "we", "us") is built by East River Software LLC. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your data. The short version: your audits, photos, and voice notes stay on your device. We don't run a server that stores your inspection content, and we don't sell your data. The only information we collect is anonymous usage analytics to improve the app (see "Analytics" below).
What the app stores — and where
Everything you create lives locally on your device:
- Audits, issues, and the text of your notes — stored in the app's local database on your device.
- Photos you capture — stored in the app's local storage on your device.
- Your branding (company name, logo, signature) — stored locally.
We do not upload, back up, or transmit this content to any server we control. If you delete an audit, or delete the app, that content is removed from the device.
Voice and on-device AI
- When you record, your speech is transcribed using Apple's on-device speech recognition.
- The transcript is turned into a structured issue using Apple's on-device Foundation Models, which run on your device.
- Your voice and notes are not sent to us or to any third-party AI service. On devices that don't support on-device AI, the note is simply saved as plain text — still entirely on the device.
Device permissions
The app asks for these only to do the job, at the moment it's needed:
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Microphone | Capture voice notes that become issues |
| Speech Recognition | Transcribe those notes into text (on-device) |
| Camera | Photograph issues during a walkthrough |
| Photo Library | (Optional) attach a company logo to reports |
| Location | (Optional) pin a captured issue to where it was photographed, and fill a site address when you tap "use current location" |
You can change any of these anytime in iOS Settings. Denying one only disables the related feature.
Analytics
To understand how the app is used and to fix problems, we collect anonymous product-usage analytics using PostHog, a privacy-focused analytics tool.
- What we collect: anonymous usage events (for example: an audit was created, an issue was captured, a report was generated, a screen was viewed) and basic technical/diagnostic information (app version, device model, OS version, crashes/errors).
- What we do NOT collect: the content of your audits — your photos, voice notes, transcripts, issue text, client names, or report contents are never sent to analytics.
- Not linked to your identity: we do not require an account, and we do not collect your name, email, or precise location for analytics. Analytics data is not tied to a real-world identity.
- No advertising / no cross-app tracking: we do not use this data for advertising and do not track you across other companies' apps or websites (no App Tracking Transparency prompt).
Analytics data is processed by PostHog on our behalf under their privacy policy.
Subscriptions and payments
Subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see or store your payment-card details — Apple's handling of that transaction is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Subscription terms (plans, prices, auto-renewal) are set out in our Terms of Use.
To manage your subscription status (so the app knows whether you're on Pro, across reinstalls and devices), we use RevenueCat. RevenueCat receives the App Store purchase/transaction information (e.g. which product you bought and its status) and an anonymous app-user identifier — never your name, email, or payment-card details. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
Data sharing
We do not sell your data. Information that leaves your device is limited to: (a) what you choose to export or share yourself (e.g. emailing a PDF report), (b) the subscription transaction handled by Apple and RevenueCat, and (c) the anonymous analytics described above.
Your choices
- Turn off any permission in iOS Settings at any time.
- Delete an audit, or delete the app, to remove its content from your device.
- To request that we delete analytics data associated with your device, contact us at support@eastriver.software.
Children
Snag List is a professional tool and is not directed at children under 13.
